SOLAR FIRING

These pieces below are from my first solar firing. I had solar panels installed on my home/studio last month.
I upgraded to a 3" insulated L&L kiln and after an energy audit:
-insulated the suggested area's in the home and studio,
-switched light bulbs to fluorescent,
-caulked windows and doors,
-use curtains on s/e/w windows when then sun is on them in the summer and at night in the winter to decrease unwanted outside influences from the weather.

I use an Orton controller to control the firing of my kiln and it worked without hesitation. I had some concerns being hooked into the grid when I produce electric with the panel what I don't use goes to the grid and I can then tap into it later (being credited for what was made) Yes my meter did run backwards until they replaced it with the digital so I can no longer see the wheel in reverse.

The other interesting thing I noticed was the kiln spent less time delivering 100% current ( I can watch this on the computer since my kiln is connected to the computer. Better insulation and thicker coils? I think so. I have no way to directly meter what is being used for a firing.
ENJOY....
